  1. OK im going to do a test on this. Here are the specs.
    [MPEG-1]
    Video length - 200 frames
    Framerate - 25FPS
    Rate control - CBR2520
    Aspect Ratio - 4:3 625Lines
    Audio - 224/44khz
    File Size - 2,891,780
    Encoding Time - 141 Seconds

    [MPEG-2]
    Video length - 200 frames
    Framerate - 25FPS
    Rate control - CBR2520
    Aspect Ratio - 4:3 Display
    Audio - 224/44khz
    File Length - 2,791,124 bytes
    Encoding Time - 145 seconds
    ------------------------------------------------------------

Well i guess i proved myself wrong. MPEG-2 is smaller, as for quality, the quality on both files is identical, there isnt any noticable difference

Do the same you did on a very fast scene and see what happens to the "blockiness" on the MPEG-2.

  3. Its exactly the same, the only difference is the mental difference, which you make the choice of. Ive made plently of MPEG-2 SVCD's with almost no blocks at all.

Of course 480x480 (SVCD Standard) will have more blocks than 352x240 (VCD standard) but that is because of RESOLUTION!!! NOT MPEG-1 , MPEG-2! at the same resolution, and same bitrate, they look identical, regardless of the pace of the scene, you are imagining things, nothing more, nothing less
