  1. im using I-O DATA GV-MVP/GX capture card...and im trying to capture from my sonyhandycamDCR-HC90 NTSC....my problem is that when i capture using my TV software it will capture into mpeg...and the encoder that was given with the capture card software is so terrible that i can even recognise the video anymore...then i try to capture using otther software like sony vegas...the problem is that vegas cannot detect my handycam as i connect it using analog wire into my capture card..the same thing happen when i use ULEAD Video Studio...however those software can detect my handycam when i connect it using usb stream...but my frenz told me that analog is better than usb. in conclusion
1)how can i make those software detect my handycam eventhough i connect my handycam using analogwire
2)how can i compress the captured file but in the same time maintaining the quality of the video.

If that's a DV camcorder, I assume it has DV 1394A-Firewire output. Why do you need a capture card, or am I missing something? I don't know much about that card. Does it have a hardware MPEG encoder?

DV is much better quality than USB or composite. It just needs a Firewire card. USB is normally used for low quality video or stills for web use.

For your problem with the computer not seeing the camera, take a look in the DV forum here. That problem is fairly common, you might see some ideas to help.

Just looked at the specs and yes you do have a firewire i-link connector on that camera. Use that with a program like WINDV. If it's because you don't have a firewire card on your pc then it's well worth buying one. The transfer is one for one dv (avi) format. You can then edit and encode to mpeg on your pc.
If you have a very fast computer you can go to mpeg during the transfer process. I think vegas will let you do it but you need the firewire card connected to your camera.

btw) usb produces a low-res mpeg
