The volume of audio track decreases when encoding with TMPGE

Please help me out with my problem...
1- I rip my DVD's with smartripper.
2- I run them through DVD2AVI with the default settings of the program. The created WAV-file sound okay, and the volume is as expected.
3- I feed the D2V file and the audio WAv file to TMPGEnc to create a VCD.
4- When the conversion has been completed, the audio volume has been decreased, and I can hardly hear anything.

I've never had this problem when I captured with Virtual dub from a VHS tape. This problem started when used a DVD as a source.
So,.....help?

I am a newbie at this whole VCD thing. I just got a Pioneer 16x DVD Drive a couple of weeks ago, and I am having a similar problem. In fact, the .wav file I get after using DVD2AVI is fairly quiet to start off with. I use winamp for audio, and when I double-click on the movie .wav file I create, I have to turn the volume all the way up on winamp and the main volume on my computer to hear at a normal level, whereas with my mp3's the volume is set to about 25% and I can hear it just fine.

Then, like the problem you are having, when I put the .d2v and .wav files through TMPGEnc, the resulting MPEG is even less audible than the original .wav file.

So basically, I dont know why i posted this cause I cant really help you. But, I am wondering if it is something with compressing from a 5.1 channel input into a 2-channel mpeg. I dont know how the encoder decides which channels to take the audio from in the first place, or how that all works.

Hopefully there is someone who does know and can help us.

I get somewhat of the opposite. I capture with my LD player and then after encoding to VCD and playing back on my DVD player it's about twice as loud as it is when it comes out of my LD player... of course my LD player is unnaturally low volumed compared to my TV, VCR or DVD player.

You may try dvd2avi's audio normalization, 100%.
The 2nd way is, to change the volume in TMPG. Setting->advanced->audio effect.
