  1. Hi
I have a HP DVD-writer and want to make backup of my movies and don't want to convert it to Div x,vcd,or what ever.

I have bought 10 DVD-R Blank DISK and it's very expansiv. So I don,t want to waste them on bad burning.

So, Can any one give me a guide or tips to make the Perfect backup ?
(If you know a site that explaines "DVD to DVD Copy" Method ,Please give me the adress!)

  2. Please do a search before posting as this question gets asked on a weekly, currently there is NO way to make a straight DVD to DVD-R copy, you will have to rip to your harddrive first.

  3. Did you say DVD-R?
Sorry, HP DVD writer 100i only writes to DVD+RW media and nobody knows if it can write to DVD+R media until early 2002.
And HP DVD writer 100i was not designed to write DVD-R/RW media.

  4. DVD-R/RW & DVD+R/RW carry the same copy protection measures as well as the writers themselves.

    Hi ali1:

If you have a re-writeable DVD, you can try this, before you do it on a blank DVD-R.

I say try because I am waiting for my new panasonic DVD-R/DVD-RW and DVD-RAM drive to arrive, so I haven't checked this. But it's supposed to work.

Rip your DVD with CladDVD or SmartRipper.
Be sure to remove Macrovision, make it Multi-Region, and DeCSS.

You will then have a complete movie in your hard disk without any protection.
Burn this to your new blank DVD with Nero Version 5.5.6.4 which is the latest.

You should have now a perfect backup of your DVD that can be played an copied anywhere you want.

    Cheers.

  6. My Set up,
    the Pioneer A03,
I can make DVD copies, but I HAVE to rip the vob files with DVD Decrypter to the hard drive, once ripped then I merely make a VIDEO_TS folder, copy the vob files and burn with Nero 5.5.5.1 as UDF / ISO image and they work perfect, the only Caveat is that the copies I make must be under 4.7Gb limit of the blank DVD discs.

  7. Hi all,

  8. Yes, the DVD/RW does ( in both DVD Rom and Home DVD Players ), I use a self running exe from SpruceUp that will also allow it to self run on a computer as it loads a DVD Movie player. I have yet ot do a DVD-R disc but will soon once I "tweak" my DVD-RW disc for final burn. As for Media brand I use Verbatim DVD-RW ( ver 1.1 ) and Pioneer DVD-RW ( ver 1.1 ), for DVD-R It's Pioneer, Verbatim and Memorix R4.7 general use media.

  11. No intention to turn down any idea in this thread.

But I believe it may be better to

    1) either buy the DVD movie disc (cheaper and no hassle)
Most DVD movies go beyond 4.7 GB limit so it would take two DVD-R (2x12 = 24$, while a movie would normally cost less).

    2) or rip it to CD-R in X/S/VCD (dirt cheap but need effort). This is what lot of people in this forum are doing.

In my opinion, DVD-R is better used for recording home video tapes (or more exactly self made vide) since the later are considered priceless family memories and I just cannot buy them from any store.

  12. ktnwin dvd-r discs are under $5 at most sites. Also since this site is for converting, most of us know how to. I have fit over 4 hours of dvd vid on 1 4.7 gig disc, converting with cce. No blockiness, crisp picture. I have even seen double sided dvd-r's for $5, which can fit great quality 4 2 hour movies. Nearly $1 a movie. Don't go buy it, rent it!

  13. Can anyone tell me why when creating a VCD from MPG file occassionally I get coloured squares appearing when playing it back on a DVD. The mpg file is fine?

Can you tell me where to get it.

  17. Can the Pioneer DVD writer write to DVD-R discs above 4.7GB. Understand that 4.7GB is the most commonly available discs now but there are discs at 7 GB, 9.5 G and 11 GB respectively. I know they can write only to single sided discs though.

    Thanks,
    Sid.

  18. Sids-

there are 7, 9, and 11 gb discs? I have yet to see those, though it's a good question if the A03 will write to them, I take it the discs are dual layered? or dbl sided?
