I'm capturing OTA HD using MCE2005 and ultimately ending up with Divx avi's. I'm initially removing commercials and converting to MPEG-2 with no problems. I am getting audio sync problems when I convert to Divx using AutoGK. The Divx file will start out in sync but progressively get worst. The video portion of it have slight skips and this throws the audio out of sync. By the end of the file, I might have 3-4 seconds in audio delay. Is there something I can do about this? I believe the cause of the problem is the video skipping but the mpeg2 file does not have this problem. It only occurs when I convert from MPEG2 to AVI.

    1. Is there a setting in AutoGK that can fix this? Is VirtualDub causing this sync problem?
    2. Is there another program I can use to convert this? I need to retain AC3 5.1.

    Thanks

Use VirtualDubMod, in the Steams List, insert your AC3 file for audio, you will have to demux your stuff to do this.

I dont have enough information to offer any further assistance, I dont know what programs your using in what sequence and what your doing with them.

Thanks Capt. I'll try this once I get my rig back up tonight.

Just FYI incase you have more suggestions. I am doing the following:
    - Capture OTA HD using MCE2005 in MS-DVR format.
    - Using MPEG Video Wizard to edit out commercials and convert to MPEG-2. No sync problems at this stage. The video might skip due to bad receiption but the audio remains in sync.
    - Using AutoGK to convert the MPEG-2 file to Divx. Avi file starts out in sync but once there is a video glitch, the audio becomes out of sync and progressively gets worst if there are more glitches.

I download MPEGs off my Tivo, there in MPEG2 format, with MP2 audio. Here is what process I use. It is longer and more time consuming, but I get *perfect* results every time, never even an A/V sync problem.

    DVD2AVI -> Create a .D2V project, and demux the MP2 audio.

VFAPI -> Create a "frame serve" psudo AVI from the .D2V file. I do this because its faster than loading the MPEG2 video into VirtualDubMod and having it parsed.

TMPGEnc -> Load the MP2 audio file only, then File-Output to file-WAV, this converts the MP2 to WAV format.

WinGoGo -> Convert the WAV to a CBR MP3 at whatever bitrate you want.

VirtualDubMod -> Open video-load the VFAPI created AVI file. In Streams open into list the MP3. Mark in and out and hit DEL to remove commercials. File-save As-give an AVI file name, select Divx codec, and compression. I also use a few filters to crop edges, resize and deinterlace.

    REASON FOR THE LONG PROCESS:
I have used a few MP3 plug ins with VirtualDub, and have yet to find one that gives PROPER A/V sync. With WinGoGo encoder, I get an MP3 that muxes with the video perfectly. VirtualDub doesnt open DVD2AVI project files, so I use the VFAPI to do that. If needed, Ill used VDM to frame serve and Ill encode to DVD with my trusty TMPGEnc.

For reference: a Tivo MPEG file is 480X480 MPEG2 at 1.5mbs CBR and MP2 audio. This is why I transcode to D1-1.3mbs-Divx with MP3. Then I archive to DVD media.

If you have any specific questions, please ask. I dont have the time right now, but shortly I will be putting together a "how to" and posting it.

    Take care,
    Andrew

BTW, I think your problem lies in using AutoGK, from what you are describing.
