    Hi,
I captured 30 minites of video from D8 and Vegas created several AVI files. Then I loaded them in CCE 2.6 and chose XVCD template that I made" 352x240, 2500Kb/s and other settings. Encoding of some files went ok, but on some files CCE stopped and gave me this message:

    "cce encoding failed: CBR VBV ovf frame# 171 (01:00:05:23) P 26480(2.5) max 17683.26 (1.7) rel 8796.74 1.50 qsv 62.00->34.89.

Is it a problem with AVI file or CCE?
    Thanks for any help.

  2. Hi !
Did you ever sort out a solution to this problem?

I've just started to use CCE2.62 and have come across the self same annoying errors!!

    Anybody got any ideas?

I did not believe that, but obviously it is a VBV overflow error indeed. CCE does not use to stop the encoding process when it comes to a VBV underflow. Can one of you email me the .ecl file please? At the moment I try to provoke a VBV buffer overflow.
    btw, nice brain food.

CCE choked when it created a P-frame too large to be decoded. This is a serious error and points to something very wrong with your AVI, your template, or both.

AVI (Audio-Video Interleave) is just a container for video data encoded in some other format, so this doesn't really say much. Was it HUFYUV? MJPEG? Indeo? DivX?

... I loaded them in CCE 2.6 and chose XVCD template that I made 352x240, 2500Kb/s and other settings ...
    The CCE 2.6 manual says,

Cinema Craft Encoder SP can output MPEG-1 streams. However ... Custom Technology Corporation does not guarantee that MPEG-1 streams encoded by Cinema Craft Encoder SP are VideoCD compliant.

    What this really means is:

CCE SP is not intended for the production of MPEG-1 streams for VideoCD applications, therefore you are Shit Out of Luck (SOL) if the product doesn't work for that purpose.

You'd be better off using TMPGenc or Panasonic for XVCD because both of those encoders are optimized specifically for MPEG-1. My hunch is that there's something wrong with your AVI file(s) in this case, but another encoder might be less vulnerable to the underlying problem.

  5. Hi T!
When I'm back in front of my box I'll try to either mail you an .ecl file from a failed encode, or else provoke CCE again and then send it.

    Speak to you soon ......

If the source is captured avi (huffyuv), have a look at this too:
    http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Codecs/huffyuv0.2.2.rar
    Read the index.html.

Exactly! I just used a huffyuv 720x576 source and got the same error message. Then I used the new huffyuv.dll, that solved the problem. At least if you use a normal GOP structure.

  8. Ahh, at last ..... I'm not going mad after all!!

Thanks for doing the tests Truman.
One thing with the Huffyuv fix is that I very rarely use it!
Nearly all my AVI files are 'fake' ones created by VFAPI-convertor from a d2v file.

Anyhow, I can frameserve from VDub so that'll do for now .......
..... BUT ..... Now I've got more 'lower bitrate' problems with CCE2.62 !!! (maybe I am going crazy - arrrrrggghhhh )

I think I'll make a fresh post on this one though ............

    See ya around,

hmm, which bitrates can your player handle? How accurate is cce sp 2.62 with the bitrate? I mean, which minimum global bitrate do you set, and what is the real minimum bitrate of the final MPEG? And how many passes do you use?

But the overflow error you got only, when the source was huffyuv, do you?

  10. OK - After doing a test, I also got the overflow errors when I used a Huffyuv compressed avi file.
But I first noticed this error when I was trying to encode a VFAPI-converted DVD2AVI project file (.d2v)
This is how I do most of my encodes as they're generally DVD-rips.

As for the bitrate problem, check this new thread :

    Cheers mate,
