  1. I just bought this card

from friday's rebate sales for $19.99, which I thought was a pretty good deal. I have yet to install it, since my computer is at school, but I was trying to figure out if it would be possible to capture video from a camcorder to transfer to DVD?

I was thinking I would connect the camcorder to my vcr using yellow/red/white connections, and then connect the coax-out to my wintv card. Would this produce decent results? My camcorder is an older model which uses 8mm tapes, so the picture isn't too sharp to begin with.

I tried capturing direct to dvd using my liteon 5005 dvd recorder, but it was too much of a hassle re-ripping the dvd, converting to avi to edit, and then re-converting to dvd. Also, for video over 1 hour the liteon didn't produce very high quality picture.

Those are the only results you can get since that card doesn't have svideo or rca input jacks. It should be decent enough. I use my wintv pvr250 and have captured from a analog 8mm sony camcorder with good results but the pvr250 has svideo in.

  3. I got the card, I set it up and installed all the software, the television quality is decent (my school has standard analog cable).

My problem now is that it won't record. I sent an email to their tech support, but I'm still waiting for a reply. When I try to record, it gives me some error about my MPEG audio encoder, even when I choose divx or pure avi. I don't understand, I have all the codecs I need, and I installed everything needed from the cd...I even updated the software from the website.

    Anyone have this problem?

  4. Fixed this myself, too (in case someone in the future has the same problem).

You have to make sure the audio source is set to your sound card, not your modem! So simple, yet took me so much time...
