  1. I have PowerDVD XP (V4) and Power DVD 5.5 (Dell version).

From your expewrience, which is better to have installed?

I have heard V6 introduced some problems, so I am looking at these versions.

    Thoughts?

I like v5, and use it regularly, with no probs. I tried all versions when I was watching a lot of SVCDs, and it handled that format the best of all I tried (WinDVD, etc.). It hasn't had any problems with anything else, either, so far.

I liked the earlier versions. The newer versions have a hard time playing anything but DVDs. I think I still have a copy of V4 around that I much prefer to the later versions. It played mpegs with no problems.

Im using PowerDVD version 6. However, I only use it to play DVDs.

For the rest, I either use Media Player Classic or VLC media player.

3, 4 (XP) & 6 have all worked fine for me. Probably 4 was the best though IMO.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  7. Power DVD XP 4 and for a reason.

With Philips VCD Toolkit created VCD's that have interactive menus with sound (mp2 tracks, b.t.w. these can only be encoded at 128 kbps or 224 kbps) this version will only play them properly. Other version will have some stuttering present and it's just not pleasant to watch.

I am using Power DVD 6 OEM though since it has a better support for my card on the laptop. However, the desktop PC will probably never see it. Power DVD XP 4 all the way.

Besides the 2x 4x don't work nice in version 6. I have to right click all the time.

  8. Thanks everyone!

I guess I am staying with XP/4 then. That was what I thought, but was thinking about trying v 5.5 but didn't want to hose the whole thing if it was worse.

Your help saved a lot of time and probably frustration as well!

    Many thanks!!!
