I've tried the usual reinstall, etc. Is there something simple that I'm missing? I used Ulead Video Studio to output an Mpeg2 file to WMV and just don't get the quality I do using WME. Thanks.

i would output to dv avi and use it in wme. wme and mpeg2 is very buggy...probably because of what mpeg2 codec you have.

So after you export to WMV using Ulead, what does WME do?

If I use Ulead to output to WMV, I don't use Windows Media Encoder. I tried what baldrick said, and it works fine.

oic, so you find a higher quality WMV when using WME rather than Ulead to do your exporting. I am only creating small 30 sec clips for the web and getting ok results with WMV's that are about 1.5-2 megs. Can I do better with WME? Just hate to install anymore software on my machine

    Thanks for the reply!

I find that the quality, at the same bitrates, are better when using WME than when using Ulead to output the files. I do basketball, and just things like the 3 point line are smoother when using WME than with Ulead, and text titles also appear to be crisper and cleaner. These are just my experiences.

I just output to uncompressed AVI and then use WME to encode to around 1mbps total (with audio included, so the video itself, I use 850 or 899 or something around there, can't remember, as I made a custom setting a while back and just import that each time I encode), variable bit rate, 640x480. Makes a decent video, and my clips are usually 5 or 6 minutes long, and the file is around 30MB generally.
