Panasonic DVD Recorder (DMRES20S)

I think the DMR-ES10 is better.

I have to agree with ofbarea.

We bought the ES10 for my mother for her birthday when her old VCR gave up the ghost and have loved it!

We had resolved to get another one for Christmas but by then Circuit City had stopped carrying the ES10, so i November we got the ES20 for the living room as sort of an early Christmas Present.

A head to head comparison shows it's no contest between the two at all, the ES10S wins the show hands down and away.

The ES20S has been a concert of problems since we bought it.

You cannot schedule more than 2½ hours in 4 hour mode.

Will not finalize. Locks up every time.

Cannot hook a VCR inline via the 75 ohm (Cable) input without the copy protection kicking in (even on live TV).

I fell in love with the label library on the ES10S but this is not present in the ES20S.

If you can find an DMR-ES10S snap it up without hesitation. It is (in my opinion) one of the very best on the market. If the ES20S is your only option, shop elsewhere.

Try some better media. There is some listed at that link I posted above.

Actually I need to retract that part. I was able to get 2 discs to finalize but they were both 2 hour discs recorded in 2 hour mode. I haven't been able to get any others to finalize though.

This particular problem has nothing to do with the media though. The disc's that won't finalize on the DMR-ES20S will finalize just fine in the DMR-ES10S.

They are Maxell -R 8X. Never had a day of trouble with them in any other machine.
