if my dvd player can't read vcd's can it read svcd's?

Sadly my crystal ball is away being polished so I can't see which player you have. You'll have to tell us the make and model.

svcd is mpeg2 but its encoded at a lower bitrate (in the 2000 range) and at a resolution at 480x480 so its not compatible with dvd. Plus the audio is 44.1 khz not 48khz like dvd.
Chances are if it doesn't do vcd it won't do svcd.

According to user reports it actually CAN play both.
Have you tried using rewritable cds instead of cdr's??? Some players won't read recordables but CAN read rewritables. Try it out.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
