    Hello Guys!!

I've got a comlete season of the tv program The O.C. on my PC. It exists 24 AVI files , and now I want to put the files on DVD....

My question is: what is the best/easiest method to convert the 24 avi's into dvd files and drop it on DVD disks?? I know how to convert from AVI into DVD, only how much avi's can I put on a DVD disc and how can I create a menu, so that I have the possibility to choose between the different 'THE O.C' programs....?

    Thnx for the help!!!
    Sonny

Oh btw: currently I use the programs: VDMod, DVD Lab Pro, TMPGEnc DVD Author, Mainconcept MPEG Encoder and DIKO....I hope it's possible with one/some of the programs...

Use a bitrate calculator to determine the proper bitrate:

Your best bet is to put less shows per disc so you maintain quality. Putting too many on one disc will force you to use a lower bitrate thus reducing the picture quality.

That would be 12 hours of video, or a little less without commercials. It would give you a bitrate of about 600Kbs for one DVD, pretty much unwatchable.

If you wanted something worth doing and watching you could split it to two DVDs, doubling the bitrate and use 1/2 D1 (352 x 576 pixels MPEG2 (Called Half-D1, same as the CVD Standard)) VBR encoding. Convert the audio to AC3 with a program like ffmpeggui to save room. Take all these encoded videos and put them into TMPGEnc DVD Author and make your DVDs.

You can use a bitrate calculator from 'Tools' to set the bitrate for your encoder. You appear to have all the other tools you need.

If you want to see what 600Kbs @ full DVD resolution looks like, encode a 5 minute clip from your videos at that rate. You can use VirtualDub Mod to save out the clip. If you can stand that incredibly low bitrate, go ahead with your original idea.

  4. Here's another suggestion.
Encode them all using the Half D1 KDVD template in tmpgenc. Author, then use DVDShrink, then burn.

At full dvd resolution, go with no more than 4 episodes per disk. At half resolution, no more than 7 or 8.
You do want it to be watchable, after all.

What you choose will depend on what resolution your AVI files where encoded at.

For 30-minute episodes (20-24 min commercial-free), excellent advice.

DIKO can do this jop automatically for you, even the authoring part. You can put up to 8 episodes per DVD at 720x480 (really pushing the limits), or go for 6 episodes per DVD at this same resolution which looks a little better.

What settings (video & audio codecs, frame sizes, bitrates) have you (presumably) captured these eps with ?
    If in doubt, Google it.
