Hello People,
I have 6-Disc Series.
What I want to do is cut out all commentaries, documentaries, subtitles at start and end and leave only MAIN movie of each disc. Then combine these MAIN movies into 1 or 2 discs.
Usually I use Shrink for main movies, but since 6 discs are involved how and what proggie should I use to combine them all?
Without altering captions!
Thank you in advance,
taboo

You'll end up with a lower quality DVD if you shrink the snot out of it. Especially on homemade discs. You really cannot shrink homemade discs without adding blocks.
Either split to more discs, or use DL media, or both.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

You can still use shrink to do it, just rip all 6 disks to harddrive and open /edit in order, following guides for combining discs. But as LS said, if you shrink too much the quality will be poor. If you want to get more than 2 to 2 1/2 hours on one disc consider resizing to half d-1, can be done easily with dvdrebuilder.

as anzimike mentioned you can use DVDShrink
. Just rip all the bits from each DVD using DVDShrink's reauthor and store them on your PC. After that select them all in a new compilation in DVDShrink's reauthor again
https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?guideid=513
that guide should help
p.s. as LS mentioned quality will be crap but it's your choice -

Hello People,
I have little bit of the problem...
Each disc consists of 2 approx 1-hour main movies (parts). But when I am joining those 2 parts of same disc, it stops playing after 1st movie ends.
Then I gotta play with remote to make it proceed farther.
Am I doing something wrong? Please help
TIA

Let me re-phrase myself:
When I am joining 2 parts (titles) of same disc, for some reason it freezes after 1st part ends and 2nd part starts
Any idea why is it happening?
Is it normal?
How to avoid this?
TIA

stop and breeeathe...
okay...we need to know how you are joining the movies. Are you putting them in the same "track" in your dvd authoring program or are you using an mpeg editor to join them together?
It would help to get a step by step process of what you are doing like:
1) Ripped the dvd's using dvd-shrink and saved as dvd-folder
2) combined movies using an mpeg editing program
3) Re-authored using XYZ software.
I would think it would be easiest just to rip the main movies to 2 seperate folders then add the .vob's together in order in the authoring program. It should go straight from the end of movie one to the beginning of movie 2.
If you want to get real fancy and avoid fades and/or credits you will have to go to an mpeg editing program, splice the 2 movies and join them at a scene change, then when you save the new file it will be a single mpeg for authoring. Programs like wombe mpeg video wizard make quick and easy work of this.
Also, if it's already got 2 1-hour episodes on the dvd, you are going to have to A) sacrifice quality to get more on a single layer disc or B) use a DL disc -
thanks greymalkin,
I am trying to combine 2 titles (parts) on one dvd. Normally i dont think they intended to play one after another and this is exactly what I am planning to do.
My idea is to leave main movies only. Leave in 1st part subtititles before movie, cut them at the end of 1st part, glue 2nd part (without anything at the beginning) to the end of 1st movie. So in result i will have 1 big whole movie where both parts playing one after another.
For this I am using
DVD Decrypter (to rip)
DVD Shrink (to author)
Nero (to burn).
1. Once disk is ripped, I open ISO file in DVD Shrink.
2. Go to Re-Author mode
3. Find both 2 titles under Main Movie
4. Drag them to the left to DVD Structure
5. Cut end of 1st and beginning of 2nd by Set Start/End Frames feature
6. Cut also all unnecessary audio
7. Burn
Please correct me, if I am doing anything wrong, because like I said movie freezes after 1st and before 2nd part
TIA

okay..it seems to me as though the 2 files are being burned to dvd and set up as 2 different chapters, but there is nothing telling movie 1 to jump to movie 2 when it ends. you may need a different authoring program to do this unless there is a setting in dvd shrink i don't know about. The menu used to point to the 2 movies seperately and now it's out of the equation..and i'm sure the end of movie 1 pointed back to the menu and not movie 2...so i'm pretty sure thats the gist of the problem you are getting.
TMPGEnc DVD Author has a trial period that I believe will let you get what you need done. It also accepts dvd-video (which the freeware authoring programs listed in the tools section of this site do not seem to offer).
Just do steps 1-6 and then open the authoring program and start a new project...tell it you are importing from dvd and point to the folder(s)..it will ask you if you want to create temporary mpeg versions of the dvd-video..you can say yes or probably no as well.
then you can set chapter points and create a menu or tell it to have no meu. As long as you import them both into the project in the proper order they should play one right after the other. I would stick them both in the same track in the authoring software...but it seems they would need to be re-authored to know that they are supposed to play one after the other. -
taboo,
What dvd player are you playing it on? It may be that. Try it on another player.
I did band of brothers with just the main movies (using dvd shrink) and my players have no problem starting the second title when the first title ends. -
thanks ppl for your replies,
I ve changed tactics little bit with some success.
I tried what you said, greymalkin:
I would think it would be easiest just to rip the main movies to 2 seperate folders then add the .vob's together in order in the authoring program. It should go straight from the end of movie one to the beginning of movie 2.
Now
1. Once disk is ripped, I open ISO file in DVD Shrink.
2. Go to Re-Author mode
3. Find 1st title and shrink it under 100% into 1 folder
then
4. Find 2nd title and shrink it under 100% into 2 folder
5. Reopen Shrink
6. Find both parts and join them
7. Burn
Now works fine to me!
Heres why "some" success, you ask?
1. First playing part 1, then i see on screen "Play" (like i just inserted dvd and it is scanning (loading) it), then part 2.
So, not smooth as usually between chapters.
hey, mrswla, is that what you are experiencing?
2. I have no problem with scanning through chapters in part 1, and probably in part 2, but i dont think it is possible to scan from part 2 back to part 1.
In other words, when part 2 is just starting, if you re trying to scan back through chapters it takes you directly to the very start of Part 1 (beginning of the movie)
Is it possible to fix?
I guess so with this greymalkin's another awesome advice:

Also, mrswla, thanks,
It could be my DVD stand-alone player. I have 2: Sony and CyberHome. But I will check it on both of them as soon as I finish to play with TMPGEnc DVD Author.
Thanks again all for your help,

Yes. TMPGEnc DVD Author (thanks greymalkin for an idea), is definitely way to go. The way i did it is little bit long but I am very satisfied.
- in DVD Shrink:
1. open ISO file and shrink each part with 100% of compression each in its own folder.
- in TMPGEnc DVD Author:
2. using Add DVD video import both parts (1st then 2nd) and output into one folder
- in DVD Shrink (again)
3. open that created in TMPGEnc DVD Author file and shrink
4. burn -

TMPGEnc DVD Author from 1.6 back does not support subtitles AFAIK.
.... and you're still trying to do this 6 months later ?If in doubt, Google it. -
