Hello fellow Forum members.
I've just fitted a Samsung SD-616 DVD player into my system, & have also installed the PowerDVD softwear. If I attempt to play any DVD in the deck then the following error message is received.
ESDI driver or ASPI manager is not compatible.
For operating the DVD-ROM, two system drivers will be used--the ESDI driver and ASPI manager. Older versions of the ESDI driver have compatibility problems with DVD-ROMs. ASPI manager might be replaced by an incompatible version if you have installed a SCSI device.
Please refer to the "ASPI issue" and "ESDI issue" sections in the Readme file for the solutions to rectify these errors.
Problem: no further information regarding this incompatability problem is available in the Readme File of PowerDVD?
I've also installed WinDVD, & get a similar error notice: the softwear recognises the drive, but not the disk.
I do have a SCSCI burner installed in my system: Yamaha CRW4416S. Is this the likely cause of this conflict, & how do I go about resetting the ESDI driver or the ASPI manager to reconfigure the system to reognise & play DVD disks?
Any assistance with this problem would be much appreciated this Christmas time.
Many Thanks.
Brian

2 questions:
What operating system are you using?
What SCSI host card for the Yamaha burner?
You may need to update the drivers for your host card.
If you are using Windows older than Win98SE, you may need to update the WinASPI files.

Thanks for he reply, & apologies for the delay in responding: due to the Christmas holidays.
My operating system: Windows 98SE.
The host card for my Yamaha Scsi burner:-
Symbios Logic PCI. SCSI adaptor S3 C810.
Ultra SCSI code: CI-2520/60 REV C.
My system: AMD Athlone 600hz on a Microstar board.
I have two softwear DVD Players on the machine at the present:-
Power Play DVD & WIN DVD.
If I install a DVD into the player I get the above error codes fed back from Power DVD.
Win DVD. simply fails to recognise the disk in the player.
Yesterday I hired a DVD from the local video shop.
In Power DVD I keep getting the same error codes feedback.
In Win DVD. The DVD sets up, loads in, & commences playing at chapter 3. Plays until chapter 19, & then loops back again to chapter 3???????
Any assistance enabling me to configure either the player or the softwear would be muh appreciated.

Seems to me you have a totaly outdated ASPI Layer, I suggest you update it, you can download an update from Adaptec or you can email me and i'll send it over to you.
