Hi I do alot of converting from avi to mpg2, I dont care about speed or bonus features all I want is the best possible picture quality at low bitrates, I dont like tmpgenc and at the moment i use a combo of ulead dvd workshop and avisynth. Price isnt a issue.

    Any ideas?

Canopus Procoder delivers the best results IMO, but TMPGEnc is usually "good enough" - what's your issues with it?

  3. Cinema Craft Encoder without a doubt. Handy that you already use Avisynth 'cause you must use it for resize as CCE has no resize function, but the results are very impressive, much better than TMPGenc or MainConcept.

I found the results from tmpgenc somewhat crappy and i often got stilted frames even then i dont really want good enough i want the best i can even the slowest encoders are still fairly quick on my setup, any programs with dual cpu support would be handy to and I dont mind complicated programs

I'm certain there was a thread here too, with screen shots and all, but I can't find it.
In the end, you're the only one who can judge what's best for you.
