I just bought a 160-GB SATA harddrive from newegg and when checking out it gave me an option for a free 1-year subscription to PC magazine or an equivalent refund for ~$20 if I opted out. Actually, to newegg's credit I had to opt-in to get the magazine subscription, which also gave newegg to right to share my information with ZiffDavis.
Of course, I chose not to opt-in which made me eligble for the $20 refund. This was totally unexpected ... the refund requires a self-addressed stamped envelope ... so considering all that I need to send in ... this refund will cost me 3-stamps (2-stamps to mail everthing in and one for the SASE) and two envelopes.
Not too bad ... after shipping, ect. it reduces the cost of this purchase from $97 to $77 ... assuming I get the refund.
