  1. Can someone please tell me how to convert .mov files to mpg2 using FREE software ???

I've looked around and can't find anything that works. It's mostly crap that doesn't work at all or shitty trial versions that watermark the files or convert only a certain percentage of it.

    Please help me !

You could try avisynth and import the avs script with quenc.

But it wont work with all kinds of movs...mov is a container that can contain a lot of different video and audio codecs.

You can also try mencoder, http://64.233.183.104/search?q=cache:3bYNRwhdzSwJ:www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.ph...ient=firefox-a

I've not found a "good" solution, but I've been able to convert by using Rad Video Tools to extract the video to AVI. Then I use Audacity to RECORD the audio while the .mov is playing. (I haven't found anything that works to extract the audio correctly.) I then pull them into virtualdub and adjust the a/v sync, then frameserve to Quenc to get to mpg2. As I said, it's not a "good" solution, but it works.

I have also tried to use Avisynth to convert using DirectShowSource, but the result was out of sync by the time it was converted to mpg2/DVD specs. But I have only tried it on one source .mov and there may have been a problem with it.

  5. You could try QuickTime alternative codec to read your mov file (it contains all the officiel quicktime codecs).

Then Avisynth should be able to read it through DirectShow
