Problems with Sony Analog-In

I've got a hacked Sony TRV-120E (Digital 8) with analog inputs enabled. I've run into some problems with analog in, though: when trying to digitize signal from a VHS source, the picture is usually overbright (with some white clipping), sometimes B/W and after 10-20 secs it somehow loses the sync altogether and refuses to capture anymore.

I've tested the analog input with three sources. The composite signal from a Playstation works perfectly, as does my Canon Powershot. I could imagine the signal from a VHS tape were so poor that it causes the loss of synchronization etc. but the same effects occur if I try to capture a rather clean signal from the TV tuner of the vcr.

I'm using an in/out scart adapter with the vcr, could it affect the quality of the signal? Or could the problem be due to ground loops? Or is the vcr just a piece of crap?

It doesn't affect if the camera is connected to the firewire adapter or not.

Have you tried different cables or a different VCR?

Sorry for a short answer, but I think its your VCR. Try another player, I feel pretty sure your problem will be solved.

If your trying to cap a tape with Macrovision, it may have the brightness problem you describe when playing with some (Ive had one) VCRs. Mostly though, you dont see this.

Thanks for answers, I'll try a different VCR. I got (possibly) more info about the problem: At least some of the Sony cameras simply don't seem to like certain (but few) VCR models. Bad luck.
