if you used fab i don't see why it wouldn;t work for you.
rip it with fab decrypter, shrink it with shrink and burn with decrypter. on to the next one

After you rip it to your harddrive run it through VOBBlanker. Run Shrink on that and all should be fine.

    drew23977,

I had the same problem you're describing. If running it through VobBlanker doesn't fix the problem (it didn't for me), you can try what eventually worked for me. Here are the details. If you haven't tried it before, CloneDvd has a free 21 day trial.

  6. Simple :

    Download & Install AnyDVD 5.5.5.1
Then DVDShrink 3.2.0.15 to Rip & Burn

    Problem Solved!

    Total Time approx. 16min.

    x8 DVD-R

Anyone who says otherwise works for "Dreamworks"

I did what DVD Dude did.

    Works great!!

Also, if your having doubts about actually purchasing ANYDVD, don't. It is well worth the money.

Hi, I've been having exactly the same problem as Drew. Ripped it successfully with DVD Fab but then get an error message in DVD Shrink saying that I'm out of memory. This usually happens when I'm around 75% of the way through encoding.

I'm currently running it through VobBlanker (first time user of that program) and have tried to blank what looks like the bad cell in VTS_08_01 - will then try to shrink again & see how I go. I'll post the results later this afternoon.

I've read elsewhere on this board that you just have to run the file through VobBlanker without actually blanking any cells. What would that achieve? Surely you need to correctly identify the cells that are causing the trouble to make that process worthwhile? Anyway, as I said - I'm just learning how to use that program so I don't quite understand it all yet... Any other tips?

  9. that was a rather recent fix in dvdfabdecryptor that particular movie appearently has something thats "like ARcoSS, but not exactly the same" if you use an updated version of it, though, it can appearently run right through this protection.

Just letting you know that I managed to successfully backup my copy. As I said above, you need to blank out the cell within VTS_08_01 that is causing the problem. After you have done that, hit "Process" (in VobBlanker) and then shrink your output as normal with DVD Shrink. I have tested my copy & it works fine. It's worth noting that the first time I tried using VobBlanker, I hit "Process" without actually blanking any cells. This didn't work for me, as I kept getting the "Out of Memory" error message. As soon as I blanked out just the one cell, it worked perfectly. Thanks to everyone here for their ideas...

    Correct.

And, for what it is worth, this copy protection scheme (on "Madagascar") has now been confirmed as the first disc to be released with Macrovision "RipGuard" on it. (This has been reported by Forbes, there is an item in the "NEWS" forum here with more details).

Here is a link to the news item:

    http://www.forbes.com/personalfinance/philanthropy/2005/11/22/macrovision-dvd-ripping-...markets03.html

[NOTE: You may have to click on a "skip this item" link, before you will see the actual article.]

So, it would seem that Macrovision's much ballyhooed RipGuard has turned out to be nothing more than a variation on the scheme which Sony has been using on most of their new releases since last December (ARccOS). It is interesting that Macrovision claimed it would appear in mid-summer, and it was either "not ready for primte-time" back then, or else none of the distributors were gullible enough to actually pay for the product until this one, in late November.

The much-feared, much-dreaded RipGuard has turned out to be "much ado about nothing..." it would seem.

There are mutliple means of still backing up your legitimately owned copies of this disc. The latest DVDFab Decrypter is one route. DVDDecrypter with a PSL file can handle it. Running the thing through VobBlanker as in intermediary can "blank" the deliberate errors, as well.

Check the newest version of Anydvd just released today:

    "AnyDVD History

    5.6.1.1, 2005 11 27

    - New: Added detection and removal of a new type of protection
"MacroVision RipGuard" as found on "Madagascar WideScreen" R1 (US)
or "Vet Hard" R2 (Netherlands) to the option to remove
    "Protection based on unreadable Sectors"
Note: RipGuard could be copied together with elby CloneDVD2 since
AnyDVD version 5.4.1.1, but this new version supports drag and drop
of all files from DVD to harddisk as well!
    - New: Added support for a new version of the Sony Arccos protection
as found on "Seinfeld Season 6 Disc 3" R2 (German) to the option to
remove "Protection based on unreadable Sectors"
    - New: Information Window now shows MacroVision RipGuard, if it was
    detected.
    - New: Information Window now displays, if "Error zones between files"
have been removed, like on "Resident Evil - Apocalypse" R1 (US)"

This program is well worth the money if you backup a lot of your movies!

I used Anydvd 5.5.5.1 and DVD Fab Decrypter 2.9.5.2 and had no problems. I also tried just processing all files thru VOBblanker and then using DVDShrink and that also worked, it removed the "unreferenced material" that seems to be a part of this new protection. It appears to be in VTS_08_01 cell 2 that the Madagascar protection is in.
