  1. Hi everyone,

I seem to have no problem importing various files into my Sonic Foundry Vegas 4 program, (avi, quicktime, and etc), but for some odd reason I cannot import files that have been recorded in .mpg format.

The original mpg files were recorded in Intervideo WinDVD, and played back fine on Windows Media Player, (good video, good sound), but when I import or open the file in Vegas, it shows the video track, but no sound track is visible.

I purchased and downloaded the MainConcept MPEG Encoder plug in version 1.2, but this doesn't make any difference.

A screen shot is located here:

Anyone know what adjustments I have to make in the settings.

Any help would really brighten up the day, thanks

    Mark

.mpg is a program stream contain both video and audio. The audio can be in any one of a number of formats - PCM, AC3, MP2. Which is yours, and can Vegas 4 read it ?

Even Vegas 6 doesn't like working with mpg video or importing AC3 audio.

  3. Yep, I see what your getting at now, just opened windows media player, and the audio is AC3-filter, and the video stream is MainConcept Encoding.

Are they any AC3 plug-ins to resolve the problem?

No, but you can use AC3Tool or Hypercube Transcoder (?) to convert the AC3 to PCM wav files. You can then load these into your project and edit from there.

    guns1inger is wrong ..

vegas can read ac3 files just fine with the latest update ..

in fact so can vegas 4 , if you install the vegas 5 demo

    ..

vegas (and version) will read mpeg files perfectly well - but they MUST be program stream -- so if they are not , mux them with tmgenc with no audio and they are fine .
