AMD 64 3200 Venice 939 CPU= $227
MSI K8N Neo 4F NForce4 MB= $110
Corsair Value 1GB DDR 400 RAM= $152
256Mb ASUS X800XT PCI-E vid card=$155
ASUS TA212 Case W/360W PS= $120
--------------------------------------------------------
Total AU$ $764
The case & PS and the MB are just a guess. I've used the Corsair Value memory with good results in a couple of machines. I do recommend the NForce 4 chipset for AMD 64s. It's PCI-E, though. You would need the new vid card.
You probably have a lot of research ahead of you. -
Depending on where you are in Melbourne, I can recommend Infinity Computers in Dandenong. Very goo dprices, high build quality, good service.
I have just upgraded mine, although budget contraints restricted some of my choices. I had to keep my 9600XT AGP card, and decided I wanted to P4 this time, instead of AMD.
I put in a Giga-byte 775 MB, P3 3Ghz (775, HT, 800MHz FSB), 1 GB DDR400 and a new p400 watt power supply for $560Read my blog here.

This is what i ended up gertting
AMD 64 3200 Venice 939 CPU= $227
MSI K8N Neo 4-FI 1394 Nforce4 Ultra - $130 (two firewire)
W.D. 8M ”JD” SATA 160G - $114 (They didnt have the 200G)
256MB MSI X1300 Pro - $175
Thermaltake Tsunami Case 430W- $199
2x512M ram - $135
i couldve gone cheaper, but i went in bought it all got it installed so im happy. -
Sounds like a good deal, about ~$730US. What I like most about the AMD64 is that it runs very cool. You don't need loud fans. And if you have the urge, you can overclock the CPU fairly easily with the Nvidia chipset.
I run XP64 with my AMD 64 CPU, but so far, I see little advantage to it. Still, you should be somewhat 'future proof' for a good while. The Socket 462 processors and the AMD 64 754 processors are on the way out. Your MB may be compatible for the dual core AMD 64 CPUs also. -
i couldve done without the harddrive and case and a cheaper video card.
the case is nice, just clip in the burners not many screws
Im very happy
