One Reason People Dislike Attorneys

If I were a reputable attorney, the kind of sleaze in this website would enrage me http://nexomni.com/index.html This outfit is attempting to take money from people via "licensing" for optical discs that aren't round, also called shaped CDs.

However, when you look at the patent

you see that it is for MAGNETIC discs that are enhanced floppy discs, which as far as I know don't even exist. The words optical discs are not even mentioned in the patent! These jokers are trying to milk money from suckers who see crooked little web sites like this and ante up their "licensing fee" to avoid a possible problem. Outrageous! This is the kind of stuff that unfairly stigmatizes all attorneys. An attorney "represents" some bucket of sleaze and expects people to swallow his outrageous claims and representations - and because he is an attorney, he expects everyone to respect him! Get a life!! When an attorney makes a decision to represent some sleaze-ball or ripoff cause, why should he act surprised and hurt because people react negatively to him as well?

As a frequent user of Business Card CD's I can say first hand these people are a rip off.

This is the first time I've ever seen or heard of these discs. What are they used for?

I use them as a virtual business card. People can visit my shop and watch a edited for storage space computer system being built from parts on a table to complete assembled system all without ever stepping foot into the shop. The storage capacity is quite small at 50MB, but it's perfect size and shape for getting customers attention.

Nothing! It was just someone's stupid idea that some crooked SOB is trying to take advantage of to rip people off. You can patent many types of strange and impractical "inventions" which vultures then try to take advantage of to profit from it. One frequent approach is to extend the range of the patent far beyond its intended purpose and claim patent coverage that isn't valid. Some people will just pay up the "license" to avoid future problems. This is particularly effective when the "fee" is relatively small.

Not true. Shaped CDs are available at Staples, Best Buy, Meritline.com, SuperMediastore and more. There is no need to pay for a license to use them. You can just buy them like any other media. I fail to see how these guys believe they can get away with this.

I believe Denvers Dawgs was asking about the weird magnetic discs sited in the patent, not shaped CDs. The availability of shaped CDs is widely known.

The patent is being used to extend this to shaped CDs. I've never heard of or seen shaped magnetic media, so I'd say that DD was asking about an existing product to which I provided a link to for those who have never seen these interesting things. I've been asked more than once if this was usable in CD-ROMs. The business card discs fit nicely in the tray similiar to how rounded mini-CDs. They do have a significant reduced capacity when compared to rounded mini-media, but they fit nicely into a bill fold.

How can someone ask about discs which aren't a part of the initial discussion? These magnetic shaped discs do not exist, but the reason the topic was opened I believe is because these guys are trying to extend their patent to existing technology of which I provided a link to and others admit to having and using without paying the licensing fee.

You really do make no sense and I'd imagine DD is asking about existing technology probably because of the link I provided to existing technology for which the topic above was started for.

Would you please go hack up another thread! I started this thread to mention that someone was trying to misuse a patent for a type of magnetic disc that as far as I know doesn't even exist and misapply it to claim patent rights on optical shaped CDs. It's there in the opening post in the thread - READ IT! I really don't need you to tell me why I opened this thread! Instead I wound up with a couple of social mutants who highjacked the thread to apply some recreational disruption. PLEASE, let the thread get back to the subject at hand instead of your imitation of Don Knotts on the old Andy Griffiths show. He also like to expound on the obvious thinking he was impressing people - Well he didn't - and you don't either!

Can you point to a single place that sells something buried in your second link to patent not even held by the people in your first link? The topic is about both magnetic media and optical media since both are discussed by you and the original link discusses optical discs while never mentioning magnetic media unless you've come up with a formulation for manufacturing CD/DVDs as discussed in your link. Personally feelings aside I think Inspector Gadget is more up your alley.
