Any idea how to do this? It only gives you "Open" "Copy" and "Properties" as options when you right click on the *.inf file.

I'm trying to install the Panasonic DV codec.

Right click on the PANADV.INF and you will see 'Install' in the drop down menu. Click that and you're done.

If you're not seeing that, maybe the file is corrupted.

Media Center XP does not give the install option when you right click on an INF file. I said that above. I was wondering if Media Center ahd an advanced access setting to get to this. Right now it seems to be dumbed down for the sake of Home Theater PC owners.

Have you tried looking on any of the many XP tweak web-sites for a way to "unlock" the right-click>install option?

Yes. There doesn't seem to be anything specifically pin pointing this option. Not many tweakers are prone to using Media Center. They're all XP Pro or 2000 Pro sticklers.

Seems Media Center owners are just happy to have a system that works.

A friend suggested renaming it as a *.reg and merging it with thregistry that way. I forgot if regedit had a little loader thingy that allowed you to do this. Otherwise I just imagine I'll be encountering the same problem again.

    Hmmm...

He bought the system preconfigured. Would there be a default microsoft admin user/password? Admin and keep password field blank? I guess I gotta go and check it out before I imagine the worst.

Oy... what a pain in the ass!
I'm thinking it's got to be a fairly simple edit to the registry to enable this -- unfortunately, I don't know what it is.

    Sillyname:
This is the only reference I found to that type of .inf problem. It's for a different program, but the problem sounds the same. It's sounds like no .inf would install from their description, though. That would be a major problem if so.

I found the registry strings doing a google search and entered them in maually. All is well. My friend was looking at me all crazy like because I was having to install the codec by force.

    It works now.
