I recorded some files to a few DVD-RW's on a Sony burner about 6 months ago. I have a new computer with a Sony DRU800A and it doesn't recognize any of the disks. As a matter of fact, the older PC was reformatted and even that Sony burner won't recognize the discs now either. DMA is enabled but still nothing shows up.
Is there some software for rewriteables that has to be installed? My new drives were OEM and didn't come with anything.

  2. You might be missing software for DLA ( drive letter access ) which allows you to treat a dvd like a large floppy. I use it for dragging and dropping files to dvd-rw's. Mine came with a Sonic program.

Click on My Computer and then right click the dvd drive icon. Do you get a display like below? Click on "Use with DLA" to enable it.

Thanks. I had to install Veritas DLA from my older burner's install disc so it is enabled now. The OEM Sony burners that came in my PC from TigerDirect had no install discs and nothing was to be found at the Sony website.
Oddly enough, several Memorex DVD-RW's are accessible but none of the Sony DVD-RW's can be viewed. They don't even show up on the old Sony burner I originally created them on. I hate to lose all the stuff I backed up on them. Any suggestions for getting access to them would be appreciated. Once (if) I recover my files, I'll never use RW's again!
