Can someone clear up some questions I have in regards to creating VCD's? I've downloaded an .AVI file, which is 337MB. I've tried encode it to a .MPG file with TMPGEnc. First problem...it only has about 1 minute of playback time. Second, the file size was over 1 GB after encoding. So I did not even attempt to burn it with Nero. I am currently trying to encode it with avi2vcd. But it also looks like the file size will be over 1GB as well.
My questions are:
1)Why did it only have about 1 minute playback time with TMPGEnc?
2)Why are the file sizes so large after encoding?
3)Am I doing anything wrong?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

1) Don't know. Are you saying you had a 1GB MPEG but that after 1min of play the screen goes dark? What happens when you play the DivX file?
2) The size (or resolution) of your source has NO EFFECT on the size of your encoded MPEG. The size is 100% dependant on the bitrate you choose. For the standard VCD template: video=1150kbit/s and audio=224kbit/s. Notice that's per second. So the source runtime does affect size.
Using the standard VCD settings it works out to 1min=10MB. So if you have a 75min video it'll be 750MB.
x(S)VCDs are burnt as mode2 data (no error correction). This means that a 74min CDR will hold 740MB of data and an 80min CDR will hold 800MB (notice that 74min = 740MB).
You can change the birtate and make an xVCD.
3) Take a look to the left at the Convert section. There's a guide from converting a DivX file to a VCD. Try following it and let us know what (if any) problems come up.
