Just a follow-up:
If you bug Epson customer support enough (only took me 2 emails), they'll send you the new tray free of charge.

If you're not happy paying through the nose for Epson branded carts, why not try a cheaper compatible or even a continuous feed system?
Worst case, if it buggers up your printer...it was going in the bin anyway!!

Another thing you can do, is print a small purge every day (to prevent the unit from performing a head cleaning). This might be a partial/page with a range of colors on it (mainly Black/grey, Cyan, light Cyan, Magenta, Light Magenta, Yellow, light yellow). This will use alot less ink than a typical cleaning cycle. Some people say dog is mans best friend. I say that man is dog's best slave... At least that is what my dogs think. -
About 6 months ago, I talked to a Epson superviser.
The ink in retailer printer package are full, as same as indivdual retailer ink (sold at Walmart, BestBuy...).
The ink in refurbished printer package are 2/3 full, i.e, Epson's clearance store, printer exchange plan (under warranty). -
Yes I was talking about the Retail ink cartridges. Even full retail carts don't hold much ink. Look at them, how small they are. I bought one retail cart package and it was $79. That was a mistake, and I won't ever pay that much again. For such small carts, they should be no more than $30. They are giving away the printer, and charging arm-and-a-leg for carts. Plus, the R200/R300 wastes ink every time you turn a damn thing on. It goes through an unneccessary cleaning cycle. It wastes a LOT of ink. Try turning your printer on/off 10 times, then look at the ink remaining. It will almost go down 1/4.
I threw my R200 in the trash last month, when the carts went out. Bought a Canon printer for cheaper than new carts. When that goes out, I'll throw that thing away too and get another cheap printer. Maybe the printer manufactuers would finally learn to lower their cart prices, if more people did the same! I should not have to resort to using 3rd party ink systems. -
The R200 is horrible. Epson's printers have been for suckers for years. Canaon is a night and day difference, and if you still want to use unchipped $4 a cart ink, you cannot beat the ip5000. it is 4x faster then the r200 on almost any setting, and it produces much better resolution. And the cd tray function on the canon actually works without a helping hand...
