All this talk makes me want to hear Gadd on Aja again.
I did the same with my 30+ title Hendrix collection. I left it with a friend when I joined the USAF and went to Crete. Later, when I called him to get them back, he acted as if it were too much trouble to be bothered with and I never heard from him again....

The music we're "presented" with today (on TV, radio, in the shops, etc) is flabbergasting. Disgusting.

I simply don't understand it. It's so lame.

It certainly takes more than "technical proficiency" to make a GOOD musician. Attitude is extremely important, too.

It's a package deal, too. A good drummer can only "shine" through a good band. (Same with the other band members, of course).

It's very subtle. The true "X Factor" is elusive to most. Most people mis-recognise it, see it in the most UN-talented/glam/try-hard/desperate fools.

    Christ, this world stinks!

I'll have to agree with that statement..... My title is in jest in a way. I'm a huge rush fan so I may be a bit biased. :P

  5. I'm highly opinionated when it comes to what I want to hear, although I have no problems with people who like bands I don't. Part of what led me to start my own band was so I could hear what I wanted to hear. That being said, I've never been a Rush fan, however I'd agree that Pert is the most talented member (in my opinion, that is).....

Of course, but this is what bugs me: It seems that all the record companies are working in sync. Is there an "Overlord" controlling the record companies? Because it CERTAINLY seems that way. I have no other explanation. We're fed shit. Classicness is shunned away.

My vote would be for Alex Van Halen. His double bass drum shuffles are just superb.

Peart, Van Halen & Lombardo are my favorite drummers. Another really great drummer I've seen live with a few different bands like Ozzy & Whitesnake is Tommy Aldridge. That guy is as good as anybody out there, IMO.

I liked Tommy Aldridge back when he was with Pat Travers.

he was not all that good ... ringo also, some say, not that great - but the truth is that even though he was not flashy , he was technical and had a certain self style that worked well w/ the rest of the group ..

Buddy Rich had problems of his own. He was perhaps the greatest swing drummer "that ever drew breath", but his attempts at Rock and Funk were pale in comparison.

IMHO, Ringo Starr has always been underrated. He was not flashy, and he found drum solos boring. But for his time, he was quite creative, and he always provided the stable clock that kept the Beatles "in the slot".

  18. Paul Thompson from Roxy Music was really good. Then there's Mitch Mitchell from the Jimi Hendrix Experience....

I have been thinking about that same thought for awhile now, what with this thread and the season and all. I have got to tell you that I have two small children and it hasn't been all that long ago that the last one wasn't sleeping through the night yet. If some kid came along banging on a drum while one of my kids was sleeping I would choke him! That is if my ole'lady didn't rip him to peices first

Actually, there are a couple of versions of that out there that I kind of dig on, Joan Jett (SP) but maybe only because I picture her like twenty years ago as being a stone cold fox. And a couple of the big orchestras (SP)

Speaking of orchestras (SP) and drums, Kettle drums are amazing! I mean it seems like their tone is more like a gong or bell, I don't know how to describe it.

Well baby Jesus didn't mind... Just think what would happpen to the little drummerboy if Jesus got mad when the drums start banging. Sure hope he can forgive his own sins. BTW how smart where the three wise men, don't you think they would of told young Niel Pert to stop that hammering becuase the Messiah was sleeping.

    I've got another one.
    Does anyone remember Jerry Edmonton?
He was the drummer for Steppenwolf.
    Pretty hip for his time.
Not to mention the ageless break on "Born To Be Wild".

I think this thread should be "The Greatest Drummer Of Their Time"; more choices.

I'm going to have to go old school and say I think SANDY NELSON is the best drummer ever. Who else makes music where the trap set is the LEAD instrument?
