I have all the BMW Films and I try to convert to DVD. Three of them are in Quicktime format and have menu like DVDs. To be more precise, the movie is started when I press a play button which is in the movie area. When playing, the movie is in the original aspect ratio, which is 2.35:1, but only in the top half of screen. The bottom half is something like a menu, but without buttons. The MPEG file result have a modified aspect ratio.
I tried with VSO DivXToDVD and TMPGEnc and the aspect ratio is modified, even when I force the AR during convertion. The conclusion was that Quicktime have some interactive capabilities like those found in DVDs. I don't know to much about Quicktime and I want to extract just the movie. Does anybody know how to do that?
BTW, the BMW Films are free, so no problems with copyright.

I've seen them and a while back tried to convert them ... I started out with the MADONNA episode and like you couldn't figure out how to do it due to the weird format it was in.
Good Luck !!!
Let us know how to do it if you figure it out.

I believe it is flash based. They started bring it in around 5.5 or 6.0.
The fact that the BMW films are free to download does not necessarily mean they are public domain, or that you have any other rights but to download and watch on your PC. Putting them up for free download does not remove any copyright that BMW has, including the rigfht to stop you from converting to DVD or distributing them in any fashion.Read my blog here.

I wasn't suggesting BMW's lawyers were going to jack-boot into your loungeroom with a cease and desist order, merely that you don't assume that because it's free you get any special rights or that it is public domian.Read my blog here.

Yes, I can, but the result is not the movie, is only a still frame with the first menu.

I just tried an experiment with this link -> http://pdl.warnerbros.com/wbmovies/supermanreturns/teaser/teaser_fullscreen.mov which is the new superman teaser. If you open this in a browser you get the same type of playback menu that you could not get rid of. However I used the flashget download accelerator on the link directly, and when I opened the mov file in QT7, all I had was the clip, in it's correct as[ect ratio.
Don't know if this helps at all.
The only other thing I can think of is if having Quicktime Pro instead gives you any extra save options.Read my blog here.
