I have all these video captured files from my camcorder stored on my hard drive and I was going to edit them and burn them on DVDs. Recently something happened and they all have now the _SES at the end of the file name and can't see them as video files anymore. I suspect that some software that I've reloaded recently for my mp3 player, SonicStage, has somehow converted them to this format. Can anybody advise me how to change them back to mpeg ?
Thanks.

bbcode tags don't work in subjects
As for your problem, I daresay it's just a file associations thing - they probably haven't been converted, just the default program they open with has been changed so they get a new icon. The way to test is to open up one of the files in the latest GSpot beta (2.52) and upload a screencap of it here - There's a sticky at the top of the Newbie/General forum that can help you with this - How do I upload screenshots ?If in doubt, Google it. -
hey jim,
I've loaded the GSpot and wanted to upload a screenshot but there is no information in the GSpot screen other than in the Container window where it shows: File Type :Unknown and MimeType: Unknown.
Let me explain a bit what was changed: every folder name where I have the clips, the name changed by adding the _SES. If I open the folder, I see the file with a Windows Media player icon and the file name with the extension .ses, the size and 'SES file'. When I double clik on it, the player comes on with a message saying it does not recognize the format but if I know that is from a secure source I can play it. I do that but nothing happens after that. Any ideas ?
Thanks. -
.ses is apparently a 'Cool edit Session' filetype.
Your video filetypes were changed to that? Strange. I could see if the icon was changed, but not the extensions.
A couple of things you can do. Open any folder and click on 'Tools', then 'Folder Options'.
I would uncheck 'Hide extensions for known filetypes' under 'View'. Then you will see all named extensions. Now that you see the extension for what it really is, you can change it manually.
Or under 'File Types', you should be able to change the associations for all filetypes affected.
If I had a program that changed my extensions like that, I would dump it. -
Well, I've tried couple of things, changed the Folder name by eliminating the _ses and I renamed the video files with the .mpeg extension. Once I did that the small blurry icon changed into the real clear bigger Windows Media Player icon. But still the file would not be recognized by the Windows Media Player and it woould not play it. Any ideas anybody ?
I did a system restore to a previous date, about 1 month ago, but the files remained the same meaning that the change was done more than 1 month ago. I do not even know which software did that so I can call them and see if they can help... Dang !
