May I suggest not Converting it? I would just use the VOB/MPEG in MoVie Maker,then convert it to WMV? Is that your Goal? Or DVD is?
But If you Really wanted I would use AVI Uncompressed or Huffy,Somthing along those lines NOT divx/Xvid.
You May use VirtualDub to convert to these Formats. -

I have a dvd, that i want to edit.
So I rip the vob files.
Convert to avi or mpeg
import into moviemaker.
edit the selected material.
Save as dv-avi better quality then the wmv.
Use nero to make dvd
I need software that converts the vob to avi quickly since that avi would have better quality then the mpeg1. which movie maker will recognize.
Thanks. -
If all you want to do is Simple Cuts/Edits,Then you should use Cuttermaran or Videoredo, they are software for editing MPG files.

I'll second and third what Candateck suggested. Realize that everytime you convert a video to another format you lose a little quality. How much depends on the tools, what your converting it too etc. It amy be only a little bit but that little bit adds up after a while.....
I'm not familair with either of those tools he mentioned but I would imagine they only reencode the parts that have been edited or changed such as where you have added transitions. The original file stays intact, additionally the parts that are not reencoded essentially take no longer than what it would take for you ro copy them.
Speed and quality, you can't go wrong. -

Essentially all these threads are about the same thing, with the later threads just follow-up questions based on replies in the earlier threads. You're getting all kinds of conflicting opinions and information and I think you may benefit from the simplification of everything down to one thread, where you can ask all the questions you like about the particular process and get all the opinions in the one spot and to do with the same subject matter.
You don't have to start a new thread for a new question if it's a follow-on from a previous questionIf in doubt, Google it.
