I am new in this forum, and I just installed ffmpegX 0.0.9k... or tried to.
It looks like the binaries and mpeg2enc have been installed succesfully, but it gives me an error:
The installation was not successful ##sudo: gnutar: command not found
After reading a lot of posts in this forum trying to find an useful advice, I changed the binaries and mpeg2enc to the Application Support folder, taking them from the Applications one. But still the same error is appearing.
I think this observation might be important: in the "ffmpegX components self-installer" box four items remain in red, and signaled:
libogg/libvorbis/DLCompat
libmp3lame
gocr/subtitles
yuvtools/vcdimager
but I do not know where i must take them from, and where must be placed... I don't know what to do with them, you know.
I would be grateful if anyone help me

The installation instructions at http://homepage.mac.com/major4/download.html say "If you get an error message "missing gnutar", then first install version 0.0.9h then switch to version 0.0.9k."

Well, Major, it looks as the installation was ok at last I thank you very much!
Indeed, there are no errors but, after encoding, the new converted file disappeared: no where I tried to send it (the same folder than the the former one), and nowhere in the whole computer.
I tried to convert an rm (Real Audio) file to mp3 (the ffmpegX put avi to it), and the search engine of the Mac found anything ended neither mp3 nor avi and, I repeat, it gave no error.
I tried to find the guides, but the only mentions to this conversion refered to video and, worse, those explanations were so much technical that I was unble to aply it to an audio conversion. I am really sorry because I am not a specialised person.
