  1. I must just be a moron...I have searched & read here & am more confused than ever.

I want to get three individual episodes of an old TV show I have now as avi- onto one DVD that will play on my Cinevision DVP650. When I insert it, I don't need fancy menus- but would like to be able to choose from the 3 episodes on each DVD.

I have a friend who "dabbles" (meaning their DVD's work- sometimes). They have a few programs to do this & I cannot seem to get my avi's coverted properly.

I used WinAVI & ended up w/aud-vid sync on the output on the hard drive.

Now, I just used Cucusoft AVI converter. It took my avi & output it as MPEG just fine. Played fine on the PC w/WMP (though the picture seemed a bit stretched (had it set to preserve aspect ratio).

    DVD-Author created VOB's.

I have just tried using TPEGEnc DVD author to try to get a menu & it says it can't run because the framerate is 23.976? Gah!!! Now I am totally lost again.. I thought I'd made some progress but apparently not.

I have Nero/NVE 3 - & I see Nero wants vob files to burn. I don't know- am I asking too much to want to get 3 avi's on a DVD to play on my set top DVD player?

Help? I hope this isn't confusing to read- I'm just so frustrated with all of this...

Easiest though non best option is, IMHO, to use an allinone like Avi2DVD, to make a framerate conversion to PAL (closest to your framerate) or NTSC. You can also build menus with it.

DivXToDVD. You can add all three files, and each file will be a seperate title. You can then bring each title into TMPGEnc DVD Author using the Add DVD Video button to create menus. Follow the link in the Tools section to get the old freeware version.

Or if you want to learn "the process", http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/AVI2DVD.htm should assist.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  4. When using Cucusoft, remember to set the output to 29.97 NTSC setting. The default is 23 frames. So if you do not set it correctly you will get 23 frames on your output. I believe the setting is the first setting on the lefthand side of the setup screen.
By the way...since you use Cucusoft, have you noticed any problems with the final bit rates of your output files? I am having trouble with everything being higher than the average bitrate I set. So high so as to be closer to the maximum than the average.

Load up the AVI's directly into NVE3, almost any file type in any combination can be combined into a single project, AVI, MPEG1/2, PAL and or NTSC, and let it encode and finish the job. Choose Title Menu only for a simple menu. You might have to adjust the bitrate and if you are have sync problems use the LPCM audio option (you will probably have to lower the video bitrate a bit more though).
