When asking TMPGEnc Author 1.6 to load a mpeg file it gives the following error message- "Could not initalize decoder". What does this mean and what do I do to "initalize" it, if possible.
The files source is valid as I can load it into MyDVDit and it will play as a mpeg file in Windows Media Player.
TMPGEnc seems to have a problem with this one mpeg file as it works with other mpeg files I have created in Studio 9 using their Movie Box Deluxe USB 2.0. It is a captured commercial VHS tape (dare I say that here?) that I want to archive on DVD.

  2. You think the file is valid but the only time I've seen that error is a bad file. You can't initialize the decoder as it is internal.

Try the trial version of VideoReDo and run the quickstreamfix under tools on that file and see if it helps.

    Good Luck

By the way, playing in media player is not a test as it'll play many defective files Ok. DVD authoring is much stricter to prevent authoring coasters.

  3. I get that same message randomly when I'm burning off my dvds on my Sony recorder. They all occur when it's burned on the dvd video format. Then I reburn it in the VR format and it will load up. This just happens ramdomly on the dvd video format, on the DVD-VR burns they all load up 100% of the time.

    TBoneit,
I did as you suggested and the repaired file worked in TMPGEnc Author like a charm. Thanks a million. BTW, the reply I got from tech support at TMPGEnc wasn't anywhere near as helpful and wouldn't have solved the problem. So thanks again!
