Hello,

I live on a boat that with both space and power problems. I would like to purchase a compact DVD player that is multi region and, in the best of all worlds, 12v or at least 110 volt. I need a player that will be able to use my laptop as the screen and later on a proper flat screen. And since I am now in Turkey it would be better for me to be able to purchase the player in Europe.

In my research I have uncovered many full size DVD players that are multi region. And most of them are multi voltage: 110-240 volt.

I have also found many small or portable off-brand players without screens at the local shops. They are quite cheap and that makes me nervous. The good quality compact players all have screens and are frightfully expensive and the ones I found do not have capabiltity to play on a larger screen: no jacks. But also none specifically state they are Multi-region although it is quite easy to try several different discs in them and see what happens.

I've also found several DVD players built for car use which would be perfect for me; 12 volt and small. But I have been unable to determine if they are multi region. I have looked at the tech data and specifications for several players from Sony and Panasonic and somebody else with no luck and the tech service people told me some confusing things. These players are expensive but the advantages to me are so great that I would easily spend the money.

It appears that all these players will have no problem using my laptop as the screen as long as they have the appropriate jacks.

I'm telling you all this so you will realize I have spent some time trying to solve this problem on my own.

Here's my question (finally!):

1. Can anyone help me find a good quality in-dash car DVD player that is multi-region and can use my laptop as the screen?

2. If a car player is not available how about a good quality compact player with the same features?
