TDA file sizes consistantly too large using vbr--?? HELP!

Every time I try to author a VBR encoded clip with TDA, it reads the file's maximum bitrate instead of the average bitrate and consquently, authors the file too large for a 4.37 GB DVD. Any way to fix this?

Example: If I have a file that is VBR encoded and the avg bitrate is 6000 and max is 8000, TDA will show the clip's bitrate at 8000.

Been using CBR as workaround so that my bitrates are accurately shown, but want to use VBR. Using TMPGenc as my encoder.

TDA doesn't "change" your video at all - this value is just for informational purposes and it always reads the max bitrate. It's not the cause of oversize authoring and is nothing to worry about.

Do you use 2-pass VBR or single-pass ? Single-pass cannot accurately predict or meet a target size.

I know that some authoring apps will balk if max bitrate is above a certain level. Is this true of TDA?

They should accept anything up the maximum DVD spec. You are working well within that at the moment (max is 10080 combined audio and video bitrate, or 9800 for video alone).

Ignoring the way TDA reads your mpeg file, is it physically around the size it should be ?

Yes, I've had files 1-2 GB in size and TDA will say they are too large for a 4.37 blank....figuring this to be a false reading I go ahead and author, then when I go to burn w/ the burning tool...won't fit...arrgh! Also I have heard 10080 as max combined and 9800 as max combined which is it?

How does TMPGenc Xpress calc a Kb/s is it 1000 or 1024?
