  1. Hello everybody!

I'm really confused about dvd hacks and dvd regions issues. I've been reading about them but I still don't get it quite well. I have a Philips dvd player (DVD726 model), and reading in the "DVD Hacks" section, there's a code to convert it region free.
But reading my player manual, it says the player can play both NTSC and PAL formats, and Region 1 and Dvd's marked as "ALL" regions. So im not sure if i should try the hack on it or what. I dont have any PAL dvd to try it or any other region dvd than 1.
And supposing I try it, will the hack work even if my TV is not PAL compatible? This is really confusing for me!

Thank you in advance for any help!

Don't hack it if you don't need it. Why bother?

  4. Ok guys, thanks for the advice. I got it.
Maybe I didn't explain myself clearly. A hack is suppose to convert your dvd region free. I've heard that in order to play PAL dvd's your TV must be PAL compatible too. If I hack my DVD player, will it work even if my TV is not PAL compatible? Thanks,

  5. Your DVD Player Most likey will convert on the fly to NTSC,so No you dont need a PAL TV. I also have the Philips and it does a Nice job of PAL to NTSC. If you Out-put the DVD to Pal it will not Convert to NTSC,Just set it to region Free or whatever region the DVD is In and let the DVD player do its job,Like I said some do a better job then others..

    Hope this helps.Good Luck/

Region codes don't have anything to do with NTSC/PAL formats. They are flags to keep videos from being played in certain regions regardless of format. It is my understanding that if your player cannot play PAL video before the hack it will not be able to play PAL after the hack.

You are wrong. I know and I "think" the OP know's this. Yes you can have a Region 1 Pal DVD,(I know there isnt any Just making a Point) if your Player Is region 2 and can Convert Pal to NTSC,then a Hack will work.

  8. Region are for Different parts of the world,Nothing to do with NTSC or PAL.
But MANY hacked (Region Hacked) DVD Players will Convert Pal to NTSC. (When Hacked). To Play Region 2 or 3 or4 in a Region 1 Player.

I think you misunderstood me. In the OP he states that his player can indeed play both PAL and NTSC, so a hack for his player would allow disks with any region code to be playable, whether they were PAL or NTSC. But hacking to allow any region code will not change a DVD player that can only play NTSC to be able to play PAL. Region codes do not have anything to do with format.
