  1. I just noticed this on Ebay (AU): http://cgi.ebay.com.au/3-5-Hard-Disk-Multimedia-Player-DVD-DivX-Xvid-MP3_W0QQitemZ7562...QQcmdZViewItem

Does anyone know anything about this player? It seems pretty neat.

    Regards.

  2. This appears to be identical to the USB HD box movie player that was briefly offered for sale and then discontinued. I forget the original name, it was being discussed just a few days ago. There was also mention that the same company had numerous websites using different company names that were all owned by the same outfit.

Company states that a similar box from a different manufacturer will soon be available, but the overal scenario seemed to me to have a distinct smell to it.

  3. There is one short post in another forum about this player (that was favourable) but little else. I can't seem to find any reviews.

At face value, it seems pretty good, DivX/XviD playback with component out but I know that not all DivX/XviD capable players are made equal.

Does anyone have any personal experience with this player or point to a site with a review? From pictures and features, it does not appear to be the same as the "Modix" unit reviewed by Tom's Hardware.

    Regards.

  4. That's the one, "Modix". From the picture I saw, going from memory, this unit definitely appears to be the same or a nearly identical unit.

There were a few people who had one and it seemed to work well. Interesting someone mentioned it was discontinued because the hard drives kept failing, this E-bay unit mentions installing your own hard drive.

Holy crap thats need. $160 without a drive on ebay for the US. If I had the cash I'd take the chance.

Just sit it under my TV and use it via USB2.0 for all my media storage.

  7. i wanted to know more about these HDD-Enclosed media players. been doing research, and there's a bunch. not lots, but many to choose from. the thing is, not all of them have been tested and given full reviews of their capabilities.

they always like to mention the good stuff and nothing about the particulars, like chipset (and qpel/gmc support for mpeg4) and subtitle support (ocr, subpicture support).

anyway, trying to compile my own list. this MviX is another one to add.

any others you guys might know of?

  9. i just starting using the hd version, i onlt got the hd version b/c of the wifi, and i tell ya it pretty smooth, i use it without the hard drive, and stream divx, mpg, and even dvd iso's of the wireless and it's really great, you can even share a pcdvd drive on your pc and play it from the unit, or hook up usb dvd, cd play directly to the unit and play it also, fam seems to been alittle loud for me, but since i have no drive inside, i just unplugged it, and might replace it if i need to with a quieter fan, later.
