My winaspi32.dll somehow disappeared from my laptop and I cannot rip my CD to either a wave or a compressed file.

Would someone please tell me how I can get it back without having to reinstall WIndows?

    Thanks

I don't see your computer details listed however I don't think Windows XP comes with winapsi32.dll. Could be wrong though.

    Hi Flaystus,

Thanks for responding to my post.

I would like to apologize for my errors. First, the file name is "wnaspi32.dll", not "winaspi32.dll". Second, the file is still in my computer; I could not find it because I used the incorrect name.

However, even with the file "wnaspi32.dll" in my computer, I still cannot use ASPI to rip my CD. The CD ripping softwares I am using (Audiograbber, AudioLab Cleaning) both told me that ASPI is not available. Audiograbber is even more specific with this note: "No ASPI manager is loaded (wnaspi32.dll)."

What is ASPI manager? If it is "wnaspi32.dll", then I have it in my computer. Why does Audiograbber says "not loaded"? I am using Windows 98SE. I was able to rip my CD before with ASPI. Now, suddenly I cannot do that.

    Thanks again.

What I'm trying to say is I don't think Windows XP includes any ASPI files. For sure my XP install has neither file mentioned in this thread.

So it stands to reason the file came from other software, have you tried reinstalling the ailing applicaitons?

As far as what ASPI is its a control interface for accessing drives, and not really used in Windows XP except by specific applications these days.

    He's using Win98SE.

    Go here:

    http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.jsp?sess=no&language=English+US&...aspi_471a2.exe

and download the Windows ASPI driver for Windows 98.

  7. You can also try ForceASPI from the tools section here. It works just fine on Win98. Use it to delete your old layer, reboot and then install the new ASPI layer. Reboot and you're done.

    A big "thanks" to everyone

Here's what I have done with no success in getting back my "aspi manager".

First, I uninstalled/reinstalled all of my CD ripping softwares (audiograbber, audio cleaning lab, etc.). Still, no "aspi".

Second, with the newly re-installed CD ripping softwares in my PC, I downloaded the file ForcedASPI, copied all 4 "aspi" files in the folder "Win9X" and pasted them to my "systems" folder in Windows. Still nada!

    I also tried aspi_471a2.exe but ... .

I am totally clueless at this present time.
