  1. Very new to DVD authoring!

    I have tried to copy some windows media files of a holiday in Cyprus to DVD in both Nero & Ulead moviefactory, but each time it comes out with no sound?
    Even though it plays with the sound when it is loaded in any of the above applications?

    These files were originally made using a sony DVD cam & converted from TS to WMV.

    Any help would be gratefully appreciated as i'm pulling my hair out!!

    Thanks in advance

    What's the audio format of the WMV file?

    At what step in the process did the audio dissapear?

    You can drop the video files into Gspot and check the attributes of each one.

    EDIT: Maybe a better question is 'Why use WMV?' if you have Movie Factory?

    The first thing I would suggest is to not convert them to WMV, the only practical use for WMV is if you need hifh compression such as for a web page. It has other uses but it should never enter the picture where DVD authoring is concerned.

    Having said that you shouldn't convert the files to anything if you want to maintain the same quality that's on disc. Use a tool like DVDDecrypter (or something similar) to rip the files to HD as MPEG. Essentially all you'll be doing is copying them from disc to HDD, it will be an exact copy of what's on the disc.

    Import your clips into a MPEG editor capable of only reencoding the parts that you are going to edit. In other words it's only going to make changes to the source video where your edits are such as transitions. I'm pretty sure Movie Factory can do this but on a limited basis, I'm not positive though.

    Set your chapter points, create your menus etc. Burn away

    That's just a quick and simplified overview, get a few RW's and work on a few short test clips to get accustomed to it.

  5. This is what Gspot reported:

    video pathS) --> MPEG-2 Demultiplexer --> Nero Video Decoder --> (R)

    audio path:S) --> MPEG-2 Demultiplexer --> CyberLink Audio Decoder --> (R)

    It probably has AC3 audio, you need a AC3 plug in for it to work with MF. Probably the same for Nero.

    Before you do that though go to Ulead's site and download the trial version Video Studio. It's fairly cheap and very powerful program for a begginer. Easy to use as well. The retail version supports AC3 audio natively, not sure about the demo but I think I saw it mentioned that it does.
