Hi , i wanna to update my transfer equippement. I have now a Jvc hr-s7700 and the pinnacle dc1000 for capture.

There are two options : - The datavideo tbc 1000 or the vcr jvc hr-s9600EU

I'm not happy with the quality of my vcr , many times the video jumps , i can see some extrange points around of the people or words if the tape is very deteriorated...

Can the datavideo tbc correct this?

    thanks

The VCR does more than a TBC alone.

I don't know much about the 7700. Is it like other 7600 or 7800 units? Meaning it has all the filters and the DNR/TBC? If so, problems tracking tapes may be the fault of either (A) bad tapes that were recorded out of aligment, or (B) the VCR is out of aligment.

yes , it is like 7600 units. The video jumps only with the tbc is on. But the "white grains - points" are always staying.

You can see them in the red squares

Your tape looks like it was EP mode, or recorded SP with a not-great VCR and not-great tape.

I can already tell from the pink/green flashing at the top of your tape that this is either a copy of a copy, or a detiorated master. Again, likely caused from a crappy recording VCR and not-great VHS blank.

It's VHS, it's far from perfect. What you've done so far, in regards to cleaning the image, is about all that can be done.

The camera work on this is so bad that I can't tell if the tape is jittering, or the camera was. I'd have to see either a much longer clip, or a still shot where there was sudden movement.

If it really is the TBC causing a jitter, that just means the tape is unstable. You could try something I've done a couple times, and that's to record the stable signal onto a new high grade SP mode S-VHS tape, and then take that tape, and run your filters and TBC. Even though it's a generation away, it can probably still clean up a lot of the flaws. It just depends on a lot of things, and a lot of experiments with test clips.

I don't see how a TBC will help you here.

So what your saying that the Pinnacle DC1000 is not allowing you to capture the video, cause it thinks the "jumps" are macrovision? If that is the case try looking for a SW patch that will allow you to bypass this.

    -OR-

Instead of buying another VCR or TBC, go the cheap route and buy a standalone macrovision remover / video stabilizer. Here's what they look like (below). I bought mine 5 years ago for around $35.00; before their was an ATI patch, and way before I knew what a TBC was...

Just thought I'd mention this if you're cost concious,
and feel you must have a TBC. (I know I did).
Alot of standalone DVD recoreders have a TBC built in.
I think the Panasonics and JVC's are quite good.
Buy a standalone and use it as a pass-thru device.
It was the perfect solution for my crappy old VHS tapes.
Then you have a recorder too if you need one.

Although I'd note that compared to full frame TBCs or VCR TBCs, the ones in DVD recorders don't do much. In fact, some of them are not TBCs at all. Panasonic is more of a sync filter. JVC uses its own DigiPure circuits.

At the end of the day, jumping is related to the tape and the VCR. Anything after the fact won't fix it. The problem here is either misaligned VCR, or a tape that was made on a misaligned VCR. So either way, adjust the VCR, or use another VCR that is equally as messed up as the tape.

Because when i disable the tbc , there is a big distortion at the top of the screen.

The TBC always solves the tapes problems but a lot of times the video comes jumping or when i am capturing it drops frames!

What i want is a device that can remove that jumping from the video signal and stabilize it

Will the Sima CT Go DVD remove that?

I haven't found it in any europe shop! I don't want buy it directly from usa using W.U for pay it...... i don't want be rip off!

    Looking in ebay.de , i only find crapy devices.......they haven't svhs inputs

If i want to buy one tbc (the datavideo one) from europe i need 300 €.
If i want to buy it from US , shipping more the unit , about 280€

I don't need really a tbc , i only want a stabilizater like the sima. I only need that somebody confirm me that the sima tbc can stabilize the jvc funs

    Thanks

If the 7700 has the Dynamic Drum System (like the 7600/9600), then I would not expect that a 9600 would provide any improvement.

Using a DataVideo TBC will most likely prevent the dropped frames, but I doubt that it will remove the jumping.

    No, it won't

A Colour corrector can help with faded colours or shifted ones
A Chroma normalizer can help with sources which the colour is "flashing" (it comes and goes). A typical problem of faded SECAM VHS tapes.

The kind of Noise you point, can be solved only with a VCR capable to resolve it, or with the use of software filters. Temporal based. But those filters tend to create "ghosts" on the fast moving scenes.

Try on virtualdub the combination of MSU_Denoise filter and MSU_Sharpen. It might help, but don't expect miracles!!!

Also try to use better quality cables and shortest possible. Better cables may help on colour / luma shifts, even if you use composite connections.

Not as far as I've been able to determine. The Sima CT-200 has not dealt at all with a similar problem I've had on Beta xfers. I don't believe it has TBC features -- at least not effective ones.

Ive been debating on weather to get one of these too...

A lot of my video issues are just videos that are just getting on with age, on tapes that are getting on with age. The video is pretty good and the sound is ok. On a few of my tapes the tracking is really bad and the tape flicker a bit. Im thinking ewithr this TBC or a really good VCR.

Use Deshaker to correct the jumping.

    I got mine.
Well , it was not what I hoped... It removes the jumping very well , and now my card doesn't drop frames...... but.....

I thought that it would clean the picture (like in the box it says) but not... the picture is the same , the tbc/dnr button of the jvc does the major job , clean the chroma noise.
I don't know really what the tbc does but why it can't correct this?

This is field blend... Nothing much you can do about it.

TBC keep the field 29.97 / 25 per second and when something missing, "fix" it (very raff explanation).

Might you have the ability to test the Panasonic ES10 as a passthrough device? I don't know where you'd want to put it, but it would add another set of filters to the equation.
