    I have a problem where the audio track is bad
    virtualdub recommends I should extract the audio track decommpress and recompress
    This original audio track is mp3 format
    How do I do that and what tools do I need thanks?

    virtualdub
    open video.
    file->save wav
    to decompress.

    or

    goldwave
    open avi
    save wav

    then

    virtualdub
    open video
    audio->wav audio select the wav
    audio->compression and select mp3
    video->direct stream copy
    file->save avi

    There is a small problem as explained above it will only allow me to save the new avi file in full processing mode and not direct copy stream whichj makes the file very large

    In VirtualDubMod, if you need to do full processing of the audio, you select the compression, MPEG-3 and the same data rate and sample rate and it 'should' end up the same size as the original. You can use 'Show all formats' for fine tuning. Set the video to direct stream copy only. The audio and video processing can be set separately, if that's what you mean

    VD will show you the format info when you open the file and look in 'File Information'.
