I noticed when using DVDShrink, some main titles are larger than 4.7GB even thought they are less than 135 minutes long. As a result, you need to compress them to fit. For example, the movie Saw. Why is this and what is the best way to handle it? I would like to avoid compression if possible.

Have you looked at removing extra sound tracks and subtitles to reduce the
size of the main title? After you have removed all extra material and the title is still to big you have two choices I guess, compress or dual layer disc.
The main title has been recorded in a high bit rate to get a good playback
    result.

I have removed the extra audio tracks and subtitles, but it still does not fit. I guess I'll just compress it.

First find out what the bit rate is. If very large (9800) then, use VideoRedo to lower the bit rate and you should be fine.

This is what DVD Shrink is built for. If the movie is too big, you *SHRINK* it. If a movie is too large to fit, then you have two choices - use a dual layer disk or compress it.

If the compression is only a few % then Shrink with deep analysis and AEC turned on will do a good enough job. Otherwise, consider DVD Revuilder with either Procoder or CCE as the encoding engine.

  6. yea...some movies (for example, superbit movies, or say the 4 disc lord of the rings movies) use extremely high bitrates....as for the length of the movie, that really doesnt mean all THAT much in reguards to if it will fit on a single layer dvdr....its mostly about the bitrates used......Most movies will have to be compressed at least SLIGHTLY to fit on a single layer disc, even after cutting out excessive audio tracks and whatnot.......only real way around it is to start using dual layer media, or go with something like divx or some other format....
