    ...how can i change if possible...the screen saver and the background image
    on my Philips 642.

    Not sure it is possible with ESS based players. With MTK based players there are various firmware tools for changing things like that. Still playing around with firmwares can be risky and is it really worth it? Assuming that is that it is possible to modify ESS firmwares in a simlar way.

    It is, (See my guide for VESEG clones - Vibratto II player), for ESS in general, but I don't know about firmware for Philips in particular.
    Took me a great deal of Googling to find the info I needed.
