hi, i have authored a movie(consisting of 5 vobs) with no menu using dvdauthor, and when i play it in powerdvd the option for dts audio is gone(ac3 is still there) and there's no chapters(the slider is grayed out).
I did edit the first VOB with videoReDo(cut out a scene and did an autosave).
I tried just putting the edited vob back with a copy of the original 4vobs and ifo's, the dts option worked, but no chapters(and grayed out slider).
anyway i can get both the chapters and DTS option to work with either authoring or just putting the VOB back with the original files![]()
thanks for any help

If you should have used the cmdline tools dvdauthor, post your xml file to let us know what you have spezified in there. If you have used another authoring program i.e. TMPGEnc dvdauthor it could be that dts is not supported.

I have PowerDVD 4.0 in my PC's. When watching movies with DD & DTS in one PC that has a cheap generic sound card I will only get DD. The same movies, when played in my HTPC connected to a AV receiver with DTS decoding, the movie's DTS track work fine.
The DTS track is there. I guess PowerDVD will only read the DTS track when it detects a decoder's presense. -
sorry if i didnt explain it properly, these are the two video_ts folders im working with:
If i author with tmpgenc dvd author, then both the chapters and DTS options, are gone. -
1. As written above, I think tmpgenc dvd author doesn't support dts at all!
For the chapters, you may extract the chapter list with chapterextractor and import/edit it into TDA. Then you should have at least selectable chapters.
To keep both chapters and dts sound, you will probably need other authoring software that supports dts.
2. I don't know what videoReDo has done with the stream(s), but probably the ifos do not fit to the edited vob file(s) any more.
3. AFAIK dvdshrink also has (quite limited!) editing possibilities. Maybe you can cut out your scene there while keeping dts and chapters intact.GUI for dvdauthor:

2. then is there any way to edit the ifo's so that it thinks the edited VOB is part of the original movie?
3. But i wont be able to cut out like videoRedo, unless shrink can edit frame by frame, but i dont think it can(that is if it can even edit).
thanks again for the help. -

I used it to create a demonstration DVD to show people different aspect ratios and sound compression types. -
WOW! i just tested it now using dvdshrink and it does cut, and save with chapters and both ac3 and dts streams......if only i did this in the first place
But!i seem to be only able to cut one bit out of the movie, not at two different parts of the movie. unless i add the title twice and cut again etc...
but when i play the movie there is now two titles instead of one, and even though there is chapters, i cant forward to the next title....i hope you can understand what i mean
THANKS again borax, dvd3500. -
The editing options is DVD Shrink are really designed for splitting a disk in two, not editing out scenes. I can think of a few options for what you are trying to do, but none will give you exactly what you want. You can split either side of the scene you want to delete using shrink, then reauthor using DVD Lab Pro, which does support DTS audio, however you will still have two titles if you want to keep you chapters, or one title and no chapters if you want one title.
TDA can join them together, keeping the chapters, but as you have found, you lose the DTS audio. However, you might be able to then add the DTS audio back into the title using IFOEdit.Read my blog here.

If you really want 'full editing', I think the only possibility is to demultiplex (with vobedit or projectx or similar) your vobs. Then you can use a 'real' cutting software (like mpeg2schnitt) where cutting video with several audio streams is supported. But you will have to 'recreate' the chapters as the 'old' chapter file (which you can create from the original ifo file with chapterextractor or ifoedit) will not fit to the new cut video. Then you can use authoring software that supports dts and ac3 like dvdlab pro or the freeware dvdauthor with either GUI for dvdauthor or dvdauthorgui.

thanks for the replies.
Im sure videoRedo doesnt touch the audio streams, i also just tried mpeg video wizard, and it seems to be similar to videoRedo.
So, maybe the only way is to edit IFO's, but this is where i get confused
What would be the most simple way to edit the ifo's so that it thinks the edited VOB is the real Vob. I know you both suggested programs, but how exactly would i go about it in my situation, as ive read guides, but they are general explanations, and im too new to apply it to my problem.
hope im not troubling any of you, sorry
