I just got a new Sony camcorder TRV280 and it needs a different firewire cable end than I was using on my TRV103. Same 4 pin but it is shaped different. What gives??? Anyone seen this documented anywhere???

    Thisd really ticks me off.

This is the standard mini 4 pin Firewire

    You've got a different one?

This is from a Sony camera:

Sure your not confusing it with the USB connection to the left, they are very similar.

  5. Probably the USB port. Many new cams have a mini-USB 4 pin port now as well as firewire. More a "webcam" type use, the two I've seen don't support transfer from tape by USB.

That and for transferring still images if your cam has that capability.

Camcoder in VCR mode. Does XP see it? Look in scanners and cameras.

You're saying the old camcoder did show up?

Very strange....The old camera showed up fine. WinDV will not "see" although the capture program built into DVD movie factory is capturing as I type.

Anyone else had any recognizing issues in windv??? It has been rock solid for me in the past...

WinDV is just a user interface over XP DirectShow. Try rebooting. Make sure DirectX is up to date and working.
