Memory Key Hits 8GB
Progress dictates that technology gets faster, form factors smaller and capacities larger, but we just didn’t expect relatively unknown Taiwanese company Transcend to be the one breaking records. Like small fish Pretec (which was first to release a 4GB SD Card in July), Transcend has broken another boundary: the 8GB memory key.
This monster capacity is the pinnacle of its latest JetFlash 2A line and has necessarily speedy read and write times of up to 21MBps and 11MBps respectively. Visually it isn’t the most stunning of designs and it has standard features like a flashing LED to indicate data transfer activity and a neck strap, but inside things become more interesting.
Preinstalled are inbuilt password protection software and a boot-up app which (rather obviously) lets the drive function as a bootable device – handy given that a full installation of Windows XP and Office 2003 will easily fit onboard. Partition software is also supplied so you can lock off the remaining portion of the drive for file storage.
As you’d expect, the entire JetFlash 2A line (which runs all the way from 64MB to 8GB) supports Windows, Linux and Mac OS9 and above, is driverless and USB2.0 compliant. All drives up to 4GB are “mini size” at 75 x 25 x 11mm and 15g, with the “normal size” eighter still pocket friendly at 88 x 33 x 15mm and 24g. They are all available immediately with the behemoth turning up on the company’s online store for a proportionately reasonable $612 untaxed.

Having the ability to transport an OS and business files would be a neat way to conduct business.
What file system are they using on that? -
