  1. OK, i´ve during the past days been reading tons of guides and tuts on how to add subtitles. My problem is that i cant get it to work.

i have an avi file and a subtitle file with the same name (extension .srt) and also VobSub installed. I can view the clip with subs in different media players that support it with no problem, VobSub is working fine and the little friendly green arrow shows up in systray.

Now i want to make a dvd outta that avi clip, with subtitles. I dont need the subs to be selectable, permanent is fine. I have followed all the instructions and hints found here: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=153058 and there´s clearly possible to do it using TmpgEnc Xpress, but i cant get it to work.........I wanted to skip the need of frameserving even if adding subs with it works fine, i just dont want to do that part. Unless its possible to automate it within TmpgEnc Xpress, but that i dont know of.

No subs shows up in preview and no subs in the finalized project

I´ve checked and double checked and triple checked, everything looks just fine, but i cant get it to work

What have i missed here? I know that i´ve done this in the past, on aother XP installation, but now im stumped

TMPGEnc Plus doesn't work properly with directVOBSub in my experience either though.

ffdshow should work, you might need to reconfigure the output settings though, limiting the colourspaces. For instance with TMPGEnc Plus it wouldn't load with my default settings, but would if I limited it to RGB24. Xpress I think can handle YUY2 input.

Yes, as far as to my knowledge, i have configured ffdshow to use subtitles, but that didnt help much. To me it seems like Tmpgenc Xpress not picking up the fact that its supposed to show subs, and i cant figure out why......

  7. I can now confirm that both VobSub and ffdshow seems to be correctly installed and working. Checked them both out and both shows the subs in, for example, Media Player Classic and Windows Media Player and also gives the neat little tray icons ......So it seems like problem is that Tmpgenc Xpress doesnt pick up the subs, and the question is why, why, why? Getting a bit frustrated here, excuse me for that.............

TMPGEnc's directshow input just doesn't work well. I was just testing and ffdshow works fine for an AVC mp4, it doesn't work for MPEG-4 either as an XviD avi or an mp4. Also to get it to work at all I have to limit the output to RGB.

My advice would be to avoid the bother and frameserve.

  10. Tmpgenc support for VobSub has been flakky for me. But using Tmpgenc in conjunction with Avisynth has solved this problem for me.
