I am having a problem with SVCD Vs my logitech mouse - after around 5 minutes of using the programme my mouse freezes totally and no amount of fiddling gets it back again - this is a bit weird as no other programmes are affected (except I can't access them with the mouse of course) and I'm able to shut down my pc via Taskmanager and keyboard use. Also a lot of activity in cpu even after svcd stops its machinations. Anyone have any ideas why???

Would certainly like to get this sorted as I use the pc while making dvds in the background and keep losing work when the mouse freezes up. The programme otherwise is EXCELLENT and does exactly what I want it to!

One other problem which only seems to apply through SVCD2 is that if I use the "make dvd and burn" option (using nero) it wont get past 1% burn - I went away and left it running for almost 2 hours and was still stuck on that when I returned. Works fine if I select don't burn and then burn through nero stand alone so not a major problem.

    pc - amd64 3200 - 2g ddr - 250g hdd - nec 3540a - svcd2dvd 2 - nero6.6

yes I suppose that would have been useful info

I have a logitech cordless desktop which includes the mouse and keyboard - the mouse is named Cordless Click Plus - it has Logitech's setpoint softaware which is useful mainly to asign keys on the keyboard (which are extensive I might add).

  4. Eliminate ALL of the additional control software, leaving ONLY the absolutely necessary drivers.

One, this is a likely solution to the problem, and two, short of changing the mouse and/or getting the program re-written, it's the only thing you can do.

If it can be of any comfort, I've got the same prob with my A4 cordless mouse. But it's for all video encoding tasks. (I don't even have svcd2dvd installed.) Seems like the mouse driver crashes during high processor load. My workaround is to have a regular mouse (PS/2) around, and use that when my cordless dies. You generally can do most things with your keyboard, (alt+tab between tasks, tab-ing around the UI) so you're not completely stuck without a mouse.

I have a logitech MX700 cordless mouse and don't have issues with high CPU load apps. As the "Cordless Click Plus" and the MX700 are very similar is it possible that updating the driver could cure it?

    Thanks for the replies guys.....

Firstly disabling all the drivers and software for the mouse/keyboard isnt really an option I want to go down as I'm usually working at the same time and need the functionality of the software prog. for that.

Second - whilst it doesn't get at the root of the problem, installing a basic mouse is a good idea to get round the effect and I will try that

Third - I already have all the latest drivers and software for my mouse.

    Appreciate your help

Just revisting this problem as it doesn't seem to have improved and adding a bit more info in the hope of getting somewhere.

As I said previously my logitec mouse freezes when using svcd2 and it seems the culprit is ffmpeg.exe which uses up to 99% of the cpu - I think its when it hits 100% that the freeze ocurrs but can't confirm that as I havent seen the stats at that exact point.

I seem to be able to get round it by disabling the logitec setpoint software but would prefer not to have to and ina ny case no prog should be using up to 100% cpu (its a 64bit athlon 3200 with 2gig ram)

Hopefully theres an image of the task manager attached

On the contrary - I'd be very disappointed if the encoder didn't use all available CPU when I encode - That's how these number chrunching apps behave. They happily take (and should take) any available clock cycle they can get hold of (depending on how the task priority is set), and the other apps/drivers/& cetera should be happy with the occational cycle they can grab.
Right now, I'm using my old cord mouse, as the cordless A4 tech froze during a DVDShrink pass.

oh - ok - that's blown that theory and educated me at the same time - thanks

I suppose I had better do the same - except that the keyboard is also enhanced by the same software but if exiting the logitec software when I'm using the prog is successful then I can live with that!

What mats says is true. Video encoding is an extreamly CPU intensive process.... see: SVCD2DVD Used as the application to stress test overclocked/super cooled PCs...

But FYI: SVCD2DVD (and therefore ffmpeg) now run at low cpu priority so in theory should yield to other applications in terms of CPU usage.
