I have tv shows on the pc as avi's, (some divx, some xvid), im looking for the best way to make them into mpg files, compatible with tmpgenc dvd author program. I have followed a few guides on here using tmpgenc 2.5 but always end up with strange results, like a 29 minute program showing 16 minutes into the program with only 16% of the encoding completed - surely this should be around 55-60%? Im putting max 6 episodes on a dvd-r and calculated bitrate of 3198, at 16% completed the filesize was around half a gig! G spot says the avi file is valid and at least 3 encoders are installed.
Any other suggestions as to where Im going wrong?

probably mp3 vbr audio and tmpgenc does not like it, convert it to wav
www.videohelp.com/tmpgenc#problems
or use something else like the old free divxtodvd and then import the dvd in tmpgenc dvd author. -
If in doubt, Google it.

Maybe you can have a try on WinAVI Video Converter. It can convert avi to mpg as you mentioned!
