Does anyone know if there is an adapter for converting my HDTV's DVI input to firewire (1394)? I want to send the signal from a firewire output to the DVI input on the back of my HDTV. I wonder if there is an adapter for that.

That would be a computer with a IEEE-1394 adapter and a display card. Software would need to decode the DV stream and pass realtime to the display card. A relatively fast CPU would be required.

The equivalent hardware box would need a DV decoding chip and equivalent display hardware and firmware to that found on a PC display card.

PS: Your DV camcorder or a DV transcoder will generally output S-Video to your HDTV at 480i rates. The Canopus ADVC-300 includes component analog outputs Y, Pb, Pr.

Thank you for the response. Since tthere are so many adapters for so many things, I thought they would have made one for going from 1394 to dvi.

Again, thank you for the explanation.

They may exist for broadcast monitoring but expect 4 $figures.

Okay, so what about component? Is component digital? Is there an adapter that will go from component to dvi?

Component is analog but will produce excellent results depending on the analog processing in your HDTV.

You must have Y, Pb, Pr inputs on your TV.

Don't expect an adapter to increase quality.

What problem are you trying to solve? And how much money can you spend?

This will do it for $1750.
